This annual event on 15 August is held to remember the more than 2400 Australian and British prisoners-of-war (POW) who lost their lives while incarcerated at the Sandakan Camp and during the death marches to Ranau during the World War Two. Each year, families of fallen heroes travel to the Sandakan Memorial Park to observe and participate in the memorial service.
